Unique Gift Ideas for All Seasons
Article by Darlene Arechederra
“We Make a Living by What we Do, But We Make a Life by What We Give.”– Winston Churchill
No matter the season, we’re always on the lookout for unique gift ideas. For something really different, though, why not consider gifts that ‘keep on giving’ — long after the gift is given? Of course, that’s one less knick knack for someone to dust, as well! Keep reading for some great ideas to get you started.
1. Ideas for The Animal Lover
Consider giving a gift in his/her name. Give a goat. A pig. You’ll be providing food and income-producing animals (cows, chickens, sheep, pigs, water buffalo). These animals in turn provide milk, eggs, and wool.
Families then share one or more of their animals’ offspring with other needy families. Visit Heifer Projects Intl for more ideas and how-to’s at http://catalog.heifer.org
2. Ideas for The Crafter
A true crafter may enjoy supplies or gift certificates to his/her favorite craft store. The crafter can in turn create gifts to give away, or perhaps sell them for some extra bits of money.
3. Ideas for The Gardener
A gardener can’t help but love new tools and ideas. Books, magazines or even unique seeds may be appreciated. And how about gardening knee pads that make it easier to work in the garden?
4. Ideas for The Military Person
Donate your unused frequent flyer miles. Help pay for soldiers who arrive in the states for a 2-week leave or emergency leave. They travel into the US, but then have to purchase last-minute tickets at higher prices to complete the journey back to their families. Bring them home at http://www.HeroMiles.org
– Send Phone Cards for the soldiers, enabling them to call home. You can give them about 100 minutes for only . You’ll find more info at http://www.uso.org
5. Ideas for A Child
A Gift Fund is a gift for the future. To learn which gift funds offer the best return, visit: http://www.child.com/child/story.jhtml?storyid=/templatedata/child/story/data/gift_fund.xml&catref=chd62
6. Ideas for a Parent/Grandparent/Senior
A roll of postage stamps can go a long way for the elderly or those living on a limited income. Complete the postage order form quarterly — and surprise your loved one with stamps delivered right to his/her mailbox.
– Give a year’s worth of TV Guide. Many, especially those in long-term care facilities, cannot afford a weekly newspaper or guide. Large-print magazines and books are a real treat, too. Your kindness through this gift will never be forgotten.
7. Ideas for a Boss in Need
Consider a gift certificate from a local discount or grocery store the boss visits often. Or, have co-workers chip in on a pre-cooked ham or turkey that would feed the boss’s family for a few days. (Let the boss’s spouse or partner know ahead of time for planning purposes.)
Enjoy your gift giving, and feel great knowing your gifts can keep on giving. Those are the truly unique gift ideas!
